AT A GLANCE:

It is declared that November 25 – December 1 of every year is “Social Welfare Week”.

In the pursuit of a new society that prioritizes the well-being and advancement of its citizens, the recognition of the essential role of social work becomes paramount.

The law says:

“WHEREAS, under the new society people and institutions are rallying together for the promotion of a higher quality of life among our people;

WHEREAS, efforts for social and economic development must go hand in hand with social justice to attain full human development and national progress; and

WHEREAS, social work, as one of the professions committed to social development seeks to create opportunities for individual groups and communities to develop their potentials to provide for their own well-being and contribute to national development” (Proclamation No. 1205, s. 1973)

The declaration encapsulates a visionary perspective that places social development, social justice, and the profession of social work at the forefront of the nation’s priorities. By aligning these principles with the goals of establishing a new society, the stage is set for a future where every Filipino has the opportunity to lead a life of purpose, dignity, and fulfillment.
