SCHEDULE: 2022 Barangay, SK elections

 

The Commission on Elections on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, promulgated Resolution No. 10831 prescribing the schedule for the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on December 5.

The election period begins from October 6 to December 12. During the election period, the following acts are prohibited:

  • Alteration of territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct (Sec. 5, Republic Act No. 8189 or “The Voter’s Registration Act of 1996”).
  • Carrying of firearms or other deadly weapons (Sec. 32, R.A. 7166 or An act providing for synchronized national and local elections and for electoral reforms, authorizing appropriations therefor, and for other purposes)
  • Use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates (Sec. 33, R. A. 7166).
  • Coercing, threatening, intimidating or terrorizing any election official or employee in the performance of his election functions or duties. [Sec.261 (f), Ombinus Election Code]. (NOTE: Until proclamation of winning candidates)
  • Transfer or detail of officers and employees in the civil service including public school teachers. (Sec. 261 (h), OEC).
  • Organizing or maintaining reaction forces, strike forces or similar forces. [Sec. 261 (u), OEC].
  • Suspension of any elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officer. [Sec. 261 (x), OEC].
  • Vote-buying and vote selling [Sec. 261 (a), OEC].
  • Rising of funds thru dances, lotteries, cockfights, etc. (Sec. 97, OEC)

Wagering upon the result of election is also prohibited by the OEC [Sec. 261 (2)] from the beginning of the election period until proclamation of winning candidates happens.

On election day, voters will be able to cast their votes from 7 AM until 3 PM.

The resolution was signed by Comelec Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia, commissioners Socorro B. Inting, Marlon S. Casquejo, Aimee P. Ferolino, and Rey E. Bulay.
