AT A GLANCE:
Every March 8 of every year is declared to be National Women’s Day
The law says:
SECTION 1. The eighth day of March of every year is hereby declared as a working special holiday to be known as National Women’s Day.
SECTION 2. To ensure meaningful observance of the holiday as herein declared, all heads of government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned and controlled corporations as well as local government units, and employers in the private sector shall encourage and afford sufficient time and opportunities for their employees to engage and participate in any activity conducted within the premises of their respective offices or establishments to celebrate National Women’s Day.
Republic Act No. 6949 says that March 8th is National Women’s Day. On this day, everyone celebrates and appreciates women. The law wants people to take this holiday seriously, so it tells government agencies, companies, and local governments to let their workers join in activities for Women’s Day. These activities could be events or things happening at work to honor women and what they’ve done. Basically, it’s a day to recognize and celebrate women’s rights and all the great things they’ve achieved.
