AT A GLANCE:
“What makes LMP 2024 different from the previous celebrations is that it has a more ‘back-to-basics’ vibe and ‘keeping-it-simple’ feel…The focus and emphasis are really on listening to and appreciating different artists sharing their music and their stories in intimate settings. Our LMP this year is not really focused on the spectacle but rather more on highlighting the artist and the song.”
Proclamation No. 933 of the late President Benigno S. Aquino III declared the last week of July every year as the “Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino” (LMP). This year marks a decade of celebrating LMP.
Music has always been ingrained in the Filipino spirit, reflecting our history, traditions, and values. From the ancient rhythms of indigenous tribes to the blend of Spanish, American, and Asian influences, Philippine music has evolved into a tapestry of genres that resonate with the hearts of Filipinos across generations.
This year, the LMP’s week-long celebration, spanning multiple music venues and stages across Metro Manila from July 5 to 31, reaffirms its dedication to showcasing both seasoned and emerging Filipino music talents. These artists have not only inspired the Filipino populace but have also contributed significantly to the growth of the local economy and cultural arts scene.
According to the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) Board Member and Vice President for Special Projects Christian Bautista, “What makes LMP 2024 different from the previous celebrations is that it has a more ‘back-to-basics’ vibe and ‘keeping-it-simple’ feel…The focus and emphasis are really on listening to and appreciating different artists sharing their music and their stories in intimate settings. Our LMP this year is not really focused on the spectacle but rather more on highlighting the artist and the song.”
Indeed, LMP is true to its mandate of reviving original Pilipino music that the Filipino audience has awareness and appreciation of homegrown music.
