By virtue of Proclamation No. 264, 26th day of June of every year is declared as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs, under the auspices of the Dangerous Drugs Board. (Proclamation No. 264 s. of 1988)
On December 7, 1987, the United Nations General Assembly adopted three resolutions providing guidance on courses of action to be taken against illicit drug traffic and drug abuse. The General Assembly decided to observe the 26th day of June of every year as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The General Assembly condemned drug trafficking in all its forms as a criminal activity and requested all states to pledge their political will and share responsibility for eradicating drug abuse and illicit trafficking; and
The Philippines is a member of the United Nations and, as such, joins all nations in condemning drug abuse and illegal trafficking and shares in the responsibility to eradicate such criminal activities.
Thus , on June 1, 1988, then president Corazon Aquino declared every 26th day of June as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs, under the auspices of the Dangerous Drugs Board.
