AT A GLANCE:
The month of December of every year is declared as “Energy Consciousness Month” (Proclamation No. 1427, s. 2007)
Proclamation No. 1427, s. 2007, says:
WHEREAS, prices of energy particularly oil and electricity have risen sharply in recent years;
WHEREAS, current trends show that energy prices will continually rise due to increase in demand not just in the country but around the globe;
WHEREAS, there is a need to create public awareness through intensified information campaign to bring the people toward judicious conservation and efficient utilization of energy.
The Department of Energy (DOE) has organized a series of activities as part of the 2023 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM) celebrations. These activities focus on finding sound energy alternatives, fostering sustainable practices, and embracing emerging energy technologies and applications.
Energy conservation remains a key focus of the NECM. The DOE seeks to inspire a nationwide commitment to conserving energy through responsible practices. This involves encouraging the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, promoting renewable energy sources, and fostering a mindset that values the preservation of our natural resources.
The theme for the 2023 NECM is “Sustainable and Responsible Energy Future: Fueling Hope, Lighting the Way,”. It serves as a rallying call to trigger conversations around efficient energy use, and promoting a sense of responsibility in our energy consumption habits.
