AT A GLANCE:
January 6 of every year is declared as Community Development Day. (Proclamation No. 341, s. 1964)
The law says:
WHEREAS, the Community Development Program is designed to create and provide opportunities and conditions with which the barrio people can improve their communities.
WHEREAS, the Community Development Program has been an effective instrument in the social and economic changes taking place in the country today; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need to impress upon the barrio people the value and significance of community development in improving their lives.
This proclamation, issued by then-President Diosdado Macapagal, aimed to highlight the contributions of communities in nation-building and to inspire a sense of shared responsibility among citizens.
The primary objective of Community Development Day is to celebrate and promote the concept of community development as a driving force behind societal progress. It serves as an opportunity to recognize the efforts of individuals, local organizations, and community leaders who work tirelessly to improve the lives of their fellow citizens.
The observance of Community Development Day typically involves various activities such as community fairs, seminars, and outreach programs. These events provide platforms for sharing success stories, exchanging ideas, and fostering a sense of unity among community members.
