A private employee who is not over 60 years old should register with the Pag-IBIG Fund

All employees who are subject to mandatory coverage by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is required to register with the Pag-IBIG Fund
P reviously, we wrote about those who are required to register as member of the Social Security System. This time, let us talk about membership in the Pag-IBIG Fund. What is Pag-IBIG Fund?
The law says:
The Home Development Mutual Fund, otherwise known as Pag-IBIG (Pagtutulungan sa kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya at Gobyerno) Fund, created under Republic Act No. 9679 is a government financial institution involved in mobilizing provident funds primarily for shelter finance.
Who should register as a member of Pag-IBIG Fund?
The law says:
Coverage under and membership in the Pag-IBIG Fund shall be mandatory for the following:

All employees who are compulsorily covered by the Social Security System (SSS) including but not limited to:

A private employee, whether permanent, temporary or provisional, who is not over 60 years old.

A household-helper earning at least One Thousand Pesos (Php1,000.00) a month.

A Filipino seafarer upon the signing of the standard contract of employment between the seafarer and the manning agency which, together with the foreign shipowner, act as employers.
A self-employed person, regardless of trade, business or occupation, with an income of at least One Thousand Pesos (Php1,000.00) a month and not over 60 years old. This includes, but not limited to:

self-employed professionals;

business partners, single proprietors and board of directors;

actors, actresses, directors, scriptwriters and news reporters who are not under an employer-employee relationship;

professional athletes, coaches, trainers and jockeys;
1. All employees who are subject to mandatory coverage by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), regardless of their employment status. farmers and fisherfolks; and workers in the informal sector such as cigarette vendors, watch-your-car boys, among others.
2. Uniformed members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Philippine National Police.
3. Filipinos employed by foreign-based employers.

It is said that those who are required to register as members of the Pag-IBIG Fund are the same persons who were required to register as members of the SSS. However, take note that that actual membership in the SSS shall not be required before registering as members of the Pag-IBIG Fund.
