Memorandum Circular No. 2024-037 of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines aims to encourage and support local inventors and innovators. This aims to promote the development of green technologies and enhance their ecological and economic sustainability. The IPOPHL through the Bureau of Patents (BOP) seeks to provide local applicants with a pathway not only to protect their innovations but also contribute to the fight against climate change and other environmental related problems. This aims to support innovations that will help mitigate environmental impacts, conserve resources, and overall improve the quality of life.
The project will run from the 1st of November 2024 until the 1st of November 2025 or until they receive 30 inventions, 60 utility models, and 60 industrial designs successful applications. To apply for this program, applicants must file a Request for Expedited Application under Green Technology along with their registration request for patents, utility models, or industrial designs.
The IP system will oversee the program, monitor applications, and ensure that the set criteria are met. Should an application be deemed not qualified, it will then undergo through the standard examination process. Importantly, the objectives of this program aligns intellectual property practices with the sustainable development goals by promoting green technologies, encouraging innovation, and supporting economic growth while addressing environmental challenges.
