Recognizing the progress achieved in the field of medicine in the Philippines, and the value of medical science in the people’s daily lives, Proclamation No. 439, s. 1957 was issued declaring the fourth week of September as the observance of “Medicine Week.”
Proclamation No. 439, s. 1957 states that:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby designate the fourth week of September of every year as Medicine Week. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to observe this occasion. I authorize the Philippine Medical Association to take charge of the observance of Medicine Week.(Proclamation No. 439, s. 1957)
This year marks the 67th celebration of the National Medicine Week. In honor thereof, and pursuant to its mandates under Proclamation No. 439, s. 1957, the Philippine Medical Association conducted Daily Free Clinics and Lay Fora at the PMA Auditorium, North Avenue Quezon City.
