The rule of law ensures the orderly enjoyment by all persons of their rights and freedoms and secures the attainment of national development, economic progress, and political stability.


 

The Constitution ordains a society where the rule of law and justice prevails. Hence, on September 22, 20024, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared September of every year as Rule Of Law Month and for the Department of Education to implement programs and activities in the observance thereof. 

 

The rule of law ensures the orderly enjoyment by all persons of their rights and freedoms and secures the attainment of national development, economic progress, and political stability.

 

The first law in the country is the Philippine Organic Act of 1902 which established the Philippine Assembly that included Filipino citizens. 

 

On February 2024, Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), reaffirmed its commitment yesterday to upholding the rule of law by maintaining its active participation in international fora and organizations like the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

 

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, speaking at a lecture of The Hague Academy of International Law (THAIL) secretary-general Jean-Marc Thouvenin in Manila, underscored the importance of peaceful settlement of disputes among the nations of the world.

 

“As the Philippines remains fully committed to upholding the rule of law, the Department of Foreign Affairs is even more resolute in maintaining our country’s active engagement with, and representation in, international legal forums and organizations,” he said.
