The law says:
“WHEREAS, our country and its economy is not immune to cyber attacks particularly against its critical information systems and information structure;
WHEREAS, there is a real need to reinforce efforts to address strategic policy dimensions of cybersecurity and develop a national cyber defense capability;
WHEREAS, there is also a need to create public awareness through intensified campaign showcasing Cybersecurity information.”
(Proclamation No. 2054, s. 2010)
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a period to advocate and promote awareness regarding best practices in cybersecurity for citizens, businesses, and government agencies. It underscores the collective duty we all bear in establishing a secure digital environment for everyone. Through educational initiatives and awareness campaigns, the government seeks to instill a culture of cybersecurity mindfulness, enabling individuals and organizations to shield themselves from evolving cyber threats.
Furthermore, Cybersecurity Awareness Month provides a platform for the government to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to cybersecurity. It spotlights various measures, policies, and programs aimed at bolstering the nation’s resilience against cyber threats. Additionally, it encourages partnerships between government bodies, private sector entities, and cybersecurity experts to jointly combat cyber threats and exchange knowledge and resources.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, Cybersecurity Awareness Month remains a crucial pillar in fortifying the nation’s cybersecurity defenses. It serves as a reminder that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, requiring continuous education, vigilance, and proactive measures. By promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness, the Philippines is taking significant steps towards creating a safer and more resilient digital future for all its citizens.
